Childcare supports family in motion
He’s learned to interact with other children and socialize – skills he’ll need for the rest of his life.
If you could catch him, little Chase Hackett would probably tell you he feels right at home at the YMCA Child Care Centre on South Park Street in Halifax. That’s a big “if” - Chase is four. And fast.
That’s why his mother, Tracey, does the talking, saying he still gets excited every morning they go.“He runs through the hallway to go up to class, so I think he enjoys it,” she says. “I think he’s just social since he’s been born. He’s just a social and very interactive child, and, as the years go by, he’s just very outgoing.”
It wasn’t easy for Tracey to find a daycare for Chase. “There’s not a lot of daycares that provide childcare prior to 18 months. “You have 12 months maternity leave, so there’s kind of a gap there. “There’s only a couple of spots; they’re few and far between.” Fortunately, Tracy got one of them, and the ‘Y’ has been a second home to Chase ever since.
